We focus on finding and helping families in need through a well-defined process focused on privacy and sensitivity while also customizing the support to the needs of that particular family.
Identify Families
We work with school counselors, direct requests from families, and referrals from caring friends and family. If you would like to request assistance this Christmas season or refer somone to the program, please Contact Us.
Interview
Every family participates in an interview process where we verify qualifications for participation, identify each member of the family, document individual needs of each family member, and schedule an estimated delivery time.
Food Drives & Fundraising
Local High School, Junior High School, and Elementary Schools conduct food drives to support the program. Each school focuses on collecting a particular set of items that are needed and we bring it altogether and inventory every item. At the same time, we are conducting fundraising activities to raise money to purchase additional food, clothing, and supplies for each family. Adopt-A-Family
We provide your family or group a shopping list tailored to the family you will be supporting. It will include items that they need along with clothing sizes, preferred colors, styles, etc... This is a great way to get your family or group involved in the program! Let us know by filling out the Contact Us and we'll assign a family for you to help! The deadline for adopting a family is Nov 28th.
Food and Household Needs
Our goal is to provide each family with 2-3 months worth of food, primarily staple items that can be used in a variety of ways and serve the family for multiple meals. We also provide common household items such as laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene, and paper products.
Shopping, Wrapping, and Delivery - Dec 3, 2009
In one exciting and fun-filled day, we will:
SHOP for all items not provided through the Adopt-A-Family program. We work closely with the Excelsior Springs Wal-Mart to provide a fantastic opportunity for you and your family (or group) to participate in the shopping experience.
WRAP each item so that every child has gifts to open on Christmas morning!
DELIVER about 2-3 months worth of food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and individualized gifts to over 100 families consisting of more than 425 individuals. To protect the privacy of our recipients, all deliveries are performed by caring individuals who have no children in the local school district or tight associations with the local area.
